Imphal: Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (Cocomi) has criticized the imposition of President’s Rule as “sudden and unreasonable.”

Cocomi in a statement said, “The imposition of President’s Rule in Manipur, despite the BJP having an absolute majority in the state, appears to be a deliberate ploy to push Manipur further into turmoil.”

It accused the Central government of failing to address the real issues at hand and instead showcasing the incompetence of its own BJP legislators.

It also alleged that the forced resignation of the chief minister (N. BirenSingh) just a day before the scheduled Assembly session was a “betrayal of democratic principles.” It claimed that many legislators prioritize personal interests over the welfare of the people.

“The undemocratic imposition of President’s Rule is unacceptable and goes against the very fabric of the Indian democratic system. Cocomi demands an immediate and time-bound process to elect a new leader and restore a popular government at the earliest. Failure to do so will make every BJP MLA and leader in Manipur directly accountable to the people for their political irresponsibility and betrayal,” the statement said.
