Imphal: A day ahead of the ultimatum issued by Manipur governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla to surrender illegally possessed weapons, leaders of Arambai Tenggol met the governor at Raj Bhavan, here, on Tuesday.
A team from Arambai Tenggol, a revivalist cultural outfit, which turned defenders against Kuki attack, comprising its commander-in-chief Tyson Ngangbam alias Korounganba Khuman, public relations officer Robin Mangang Khwairakpam, and two others, met the governor.
Talking to reporters after an hour-long closed-door meeting, Robin said the Arambai Tenggol team had a “fruitful discussion” with the governor.
“Bhalla requested us to surrender the illegally possessed weapons. However, we put forward certain terms and conditions and assured him that the weapons would be surrendered if those conditions were met,” Robin stated.
When asked about the details of the conditions discussed, Robin declined to comment, saying that Arambai Tenggol would disclose the details at a later stage. He also refused to comment on the timeline for the surrender of weapons.
Robin said, “The governor assured that peace will be restored in a short period of time, and after the completion of the surrender process, all national highways in Manipur will be reopened as before.”
The team submitted a memorandum urging to complete border fencing, implementation of NRC with 1951 as base year, deportation of illegal immigrant to their native places, aberration of Suspension of Operation (SoO)and stringent action against SoO violation militants, complete destruction of poppy plantation, withdrawal of ST status from illegal immigrants, no arrest or legal action against village volunteers including Arambai Tenggol by any commission, tribunal, court etc., amendment of MLR and LR act 1960 for equal implementation in both hills and valley and reinstate the ST status of Meitei/Meeitei.
