Imphal: The 2nd North East India Film Festival (NEIFF) 2025 Manipur was inaugurated today at the City Convention Centre, Imphal. The festival is organised by THOUNA, Manipur in association with Film Forum Manipur & Directorate of Information & Public Relations, Government of Manipur and sponsored by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India and National Film Development Corporation.

Speaking on the occasion Chairman Loktak Development Authority (LDA), Government of Manipur M. Asnikumar Singh stated that film have always been a mirror in reflecting the actual image of our society. This industry can generate number of employments along with promoting cultural heritage. Cinema plays a major role in providing a positive impact in our society.

He further expressed that Manipuri film industry is deeply rooted in our heritage and ethos, as not only entertained but also highlighted the challenges. It helps in cultural exchange and economic impact in our youths which has helped in preserving one’s own lost language. The rich culture and folklores could be the voice of one’s own culture. Its reviving slowly having a symbiotic relation with this modern era. Manipur, with its rich and storied cinematic tradition, has long been a torchbearer of cultural expression in the Northeast and beyond. He further stated that he will be extending all possible support for Manipuri cinema in the future.

One of the presidium members, Prof. N. Lokendro, Vice Chancellor Manipur University stated that Manipur films will foster cultural unity and nurture the growth of driving film industry within the region. It should also serve as an exceptional platform to showcase outstanding artistic and technical achievements from the talented film makers of Northeast India.   Film makers from other Northeastern states have begged international film awards on many occasions but, mostly for documentaries. This opportunity for exposure good cinema in the next five days especially from the Northeast is a noble initiative. A Brochure was also released at the function.

Prof. L. Hemchandra Singh, Director, DM Community college, DM University, Manipur also present as one of the presidium members along with renowned film producers, directors and other well-known personalities.

It may be mentioned that the festival will conclude on 16th of this month. (DIPR)
