Imphal: Three Border Security Force (BSF) jawans of the 63rd Battalion, stationed at the Thoubal district commissioner’s office in Manipur, died in two consecutive days, reportedly due to suspected cardiac arrest.
Information was received at around 10:50 am on Monday from sub-inspector Manish Kumar Singh of B-Coy, 63rd Battalion BSF, currently posted at the Thoubal DC office. It stated that head constable Ravindra Singh, 46, from Jourian district, Jammu and Kashmir, experienced difficulty breathing and chest pain at approximately 8:26 am, said a police source.
Singh was immediately rushed to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Hospital, Imphal, but succumbed shortly after due to respiratory distress and chest pain.
On Monday night, head constable Chandra, 54, from Uttar Pradesh, was found semi-unconscious at the sentry post. He was also taken to RIMS Hospital, but the authorities declared him brought dead.
In another similar incident, constable Bikendra Singh Rawat, 45, was rushed to Shija Hospital, Imphal, on Monday night with symptoms of chest pain and breathing difficulty. He was declared dead by the hospital at around 2:20 am on Tuesday.
The bodies of the deceased personnel have been sent to the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) morgue for autopsy.
A case has been registered under Section 194 of the BNSS, 2025, and an investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of death, said police.
