Imphal: Traffic Police Wing, Manipur, led by SP Pramesh Arambam, has set to launch a strict crackdown on illegally modified silencers in motorbikes and cars.
The move was aimed against increasing complaints about excessive vehicle noise disrupting public spaces.
The initiative is part of the “Sadak Suraksha, Jeevan Raksha” campaign under the National Road Safety Month.
As part of the programme, SP Pramesh flagged off a Road Safety Show on Thursday at Kangla gate here. He conducted a vehicle inspection to ensure compliance with road safety norms.
The Traffic Police will organise educational campaigns in schools, colleges, and public spaces. Video screenings on traffic regulations will be displayed at key locations across the state, he said.
On the illegality and impact of modified silencers, the senior police officer said their use is not just a legal violation but also a significant source of public nuisance.
He warned that strict action will be taken against violators and urged vehicle owners to comply with standard regulations.
