Imphal: The recent drone bombing (at Kangchup Phayeng in Imphal West) was a rare incident in the past five to six months, and the police have been taking necessary measures to apprehend the perpetrators behind the crime.
Chief minister N. Biren Singh said this on the sidelines of the State Level Workshop on UNNATI (Uttar Poorva Transformative Industrialization Scheme) and RAMP (Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance) 2024, held at City Convention Centre, Imphal, on Thursday.
The twin drone bomb attack targeting security forces occurred on Wednesday night at Kangchup Kharam and was allegedly the first drone attack carried out by Kuki militants in this year.
The bombs exploded just 15 feet away from a security barrack and sentry post.
Local sources stated that four companies of the CRPF from the 112th and 158th battalions are posted at Geljang Kangchup, Sanglung Kangchup, Kangchup Chiru, and Kangchup Polen. They also alleged that the attack was carried out by Kuki militants under the nose of central forces.
According to sources, the previous drone bombing incident by Kuki militants took place on November 11 last year.
Despite the state government’s procurement of several anti-drone guns, the Kuki militants conducted the latest drone attack after three to four days of surveillance in the area, said a local of Kangchup Kharam.
