Imphal: Manipur Cabinet on Thursday approved government jobs for 80 sportspersons who bagged medals at the National Games and Asian Games.
Arjuna Awardee and Wushu star Naorem Roshibina Devi has been appointed as deputy superintendent of police (DSP-Sports) under a special category.
Khagembam Memi Devi, the wife of late rifleman Kh. Bungo Singh, who died in a road accident in 2017, ‘will be recruited as a police constable or follower in the state police department’.
According to a government spokesperson, the 80 medal-winning athletes, including gold medalists from the 36th and 37th National Games and the 19th Asian Games, will be offered Class III and IV posts. The usual employment exchange procedures will be relaxed to facilitate their appointments.
The cabinet approved the governor’s address, which will be delivered on February 10 during the opening session of the 7th Manipur Legislative Assembly.
Several administrative decisions were also taken, including creation of an ex-cadre post for an ADGP, recruitment for 12 Group C and D positions at the governor’s Secretariat, re-engagement of governor’s additional secretary S. Pritam Kumar Singh, relaxation of qualifying criteria for Raj Bhavan undersecretary promotions, expansion of vacancies for agriculture officers and assistant agriculture officers following the January 5 examination.
The cabinet session saw the presence of RD and PR Minister Yumnam Khemchand, who had previously skipped three meetings. However, two Kuki ministers were notably absent.
