Imphal: Superintendent of police, Kangpokpi district, Manoj Prabhakar, was injured and some vehicles also were damaged in a ‘violent’ protest rally on Friday.
The protest rally organized by Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), a Kuki body ‘became violent on their demand to withdraw Central Security Forces deployed at Saibol village (Uyok Ching)’. The violent protestors attacked the office of superintendent of police Kangpokpi by pelting stones and petrol bombs, Manipur Police Control Room said.
Security Forces retaliated against the mob and resorted to use of adequate force to disperse the mob and the situation was brought under control, it added
The SP Kangpokpi has received necessary medical treatment and is fine now and presently leading the joint security forces in tackling the situation. Huge contingents of security forces have been deployed to tackle the situation, it said.
The situation is now under control and being closely monitored, it added.
During a search operation and area domination conducted by security forces one 7.62mm sniper rifle (modified), one improvised long range mortar (pumpi), three 9mm pistols with three magazines, one 12 Bore gun, one) SBBL gun, 10 live rounds ammunition, three 36 hand grenade, three Picket grenades (anti-riot), two Tear Smoke grenades (anti-riot) and one wireless set Motorola were recovered from Loibol Khunou, Kangpokpi.
