Imphal: A group of 26 Myanmar nationals who entered India through Manipur’s porous border were deported to their home country on Sunday.
The Government of Manipur reaffirms its commitment to providing humanitarian assistance to those fleeing war, ensuring their care and dignified departure. However, the state maintains a firm stance against allowing illegal migrants to stay back in Manipur, said chief minister N. Biren Singh on social media.
On June 11, last year 38 more immigrants were deported from Manipur to Myanmar. A total of 115 illegal Myanmarese migrants, including women and children, have been deported to their country since March 8 till June 11, officials said.
The Myanmar nationals were handed over to the concerned authorities in Myanmar by the Government of India.
Reports indicate that since the Myanmar crisis, a significant number of illegal immigrants have been crossing the porous Indo-Myanmar border.
