Imphal: Armed miscreants fired several rounds at Phayeng Maning Ching, Imphal West, from the Kangchup Songlung hill range in Kangpokpi district at around 7 pm on Saturday.

Kangpokpi is a district dominated by Kuki.

Manipur police said CRPF personnel stationed at Kangchup jill retaliated, leading to an exchange of fire lasting around 20 minutes. The CRPF also fired 2–3 rounds of para-illumination flares.

Additional Manipur commando forces rushed to the spot; however, the firing ceased around 7:30 pm.

In another incident, around 10 rounds were fired at Sanasabi village in Imphal East, a Meitei village, from Sununrok in Kangpokpi district.

It was not confirmed how the incident took place and who were involved.

No casualties were reported in either of the firing incidents.

Meitei villages have been facing Kuki attacks since May 3, last year.
