Imphal: Ten Kuki terrorists, who were killed in a fire exchange in Jiribam district in retaliation after the terrorists launched an attack on a CRPF post set up at Jakuradhor village in Manipur’s border district of Jiribam on November 11, have been honoured as Martyrs.

To honour the terrorists a shutdown was imposed in Churachandpur district (a Kuki dominated area) on Thursday.

The burial ritual was observed with the burial of three others, including a 31-year-old woman found charred to death in Zairawn village.

On November 7, the charred body of the 31-year-old woman was found in Zairawn village after armed militants attacked the area.

The total shutdown was imposed in the district by the Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF), a Kuki organization.

To pay tribute during the burial ceremony, the advisor to the Mizoram chief minister, H. Ginzalal, along with leaders of the Zomi Council and Kuki Inpi, were present.

The ITLF submitted a memorandum to Union Home minister Amit Shah demanding justice for the “10 Kuki-Zo volunteers killed by CRPF” and a political solution to end the ongoing violence in Manipur.

MLA Paolienlal Haokip of the Saikot Assembly Constituency, one of the signatories of the demand for separate administration by 10 Kuki-Zo MLAs, admitted during an interview with ‘The Wire’ that six individuals, including three women, two minors, and a 10-month-old infant, were abducted and killed as revenge for the murder of the 31-year-old Hmar woman in Zairawn village, Jiribam.

Following his statement, the Manipur government registered an FIR against the MLA.

The NIA has re-registered three separate cases concerning incidents in Jiribam district, including the killing of the 31-year-old woman, the killing of six individuals after abduction, and the killing of ten armed militants by CRPF personnel.
