Imphal: Imphal Literature Festival was held on Sunday at the auditorium of the State Central Library, Keishampat, Imphal.
The programme was organised by Sahitya Thoupang Lup, Imphal.
Manipur needs to remain in touch with other countries through a medium to make them aware of its rich language, literature, history, and other cultural assets, said Saratchand Thiyam, advisor of Sahitya Thoupang Lup.
Various countries across the globe organise their own literature festivals to showcase their rich literature, culture, and heritage. Similarly, Manipur has been organising the Imphal Literature Festival, which has been held continuously in the state since 2013, he added.
The main objective of organising the festival was to introduce writers from different countries to Manipuri literature by inviting them to the event.
“In exchange, we also learn about their culture and literature,” the literature exponent said.
The festival is one of the most important platforms to present the identity of Manipuri literature and culture to the world. However, due to the ongoing turmoil in Manipur, this year’s festival was organised on a low scale and limited to just one day, he added.
Two poetry books titled “Pon” by N. Shreth Chongtham and “The Vale of Verse” by Wangthoi Khuman were also released on this day.
