Imphal : Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has criticised Union Home minister Amit Shah and Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh for giving contradictory statements on the prolonged crisis in the state.

Manipur PCC President Keisham Meghachandra accused the two leaders of confusing the public and failing to present a unified stance on the violence in Manipur.

He was speaking to reporters here on Tuesday.

“Amit Shah recently described the Manipur crisis as an ethnic clash, while Biren Singh blamed illegal infiltrators from Myanmar for it. These statements are confusing and stalled efforts to restore peace,” Meghachandra said.

Amit Shah blamed both a Manipur High Court ruling on the Meitei ST demand and illegal infiltrators for the turmoil, during the 2023 no-confidence motion, he added.

“These inconsistent statements from the Home minister over 19 months of chaos clearly show a lack of focus in addressing the crisis,” the state Congress leader said.

Meghachandra criticized Biren for his speech on Vijay Diwas, stating that he had not received intelligence inputs for the past 15 months.

“Is he not the chief minister who handles the Home department? Who is managing the department?” He questioned.

He also demanded clarity on Singh’s allegation that some agencies provided false information to the Centre.

“Who are these agencies?” Meghachandra asked, stating that the situation is a reflection of confusion and incompetence in managing law and order.

He urged the state and central governments to take decisive action to bring peace and normalcy in Manipur, where people are losing their livelihoods, rights, and freedom to speak. “The state is descending into chaos and anarchy,” he said.
