Imphal: A bomb was exploded at the residence of the former director of Local Audit Fund and MIS, Laishram Badankumar, in Imphal East district, Manipur, on Thursday evening.

The blast did not injured anyone.

The explosion took place at around 7 p.m, police said. It damaged some property of Badankumar.

On October 17, a bomb was found planted at his residence by unknown assailants. This repeated threat is suspected to be linked to monetary extortion, said police.

A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway, police added.

In response to rising extortion activities in the strife-torn state, Manipur police established an Anti-Extortion Cell in October, led by additional director general of police (Law and Order). All zonal DIGPs are members of the cell, which is responsible for monitoring and supervising anti-extortion efforts.

Since May 3 last year till October, 121 extortionists have been arrested.
