Imphal: Chief minister N. Biren Singh has little knowledge of governance, said former Manipur chief minister O. Ibobi on Friday during a protest on Friday demanding Union Home minister Amit Shah’s resignation amid controversy over his remarks on BR Ambedkar, made on Tuesday in the Rajya Sabha.

The Congress party organised a protest march from Congress Bhavan to Kangla Fort, demanding an apology from Union Home Minister Amit Shah for insulting the father of the Indian Constitution, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar.

CLP Leader O Ibobi Singh led the protest march, accompanied by MPCC president K. Meghachandra and other party workers.

Speaking at the Kangla gate, Meghachandra vowed to continue protests at various levels until Shah makes apology.

Ibobi expressed disappointment over what he called baseless allegations levelled by the BJP against Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.

Commenting on Biren’s recent remark about some central agencies providing incorrect inputs about Manipur, Ibobi said, “We always respect central agencies, be it the CBI, NIA, or ED. They are investigating agencies and they will submit their findings to the concerned authorities. Who entrusted these central agencies with investigations? To whom is he referring when he talks about misinformation?”

On the memorandum submitted by Congress legislators to the Prime Minister, Ibobi said there has been no response so far. He criticized Centre for taking too long to respond to resolve the crisis in the state.

“Will the central government maintain silence if similar events occurred in any other parts of India?” Ibobi asked.
