Imphal: Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh said 63 acres of poppy plantation — 20 acres in Langka, 18 Acres in Bileijang and 25 acres in Makui has been destroyed in three days during drive in Kangpokpi district.

Three Days of Poppy destruction were undertaken on December 17, 18 and 19 in the villages around IT Road, Kangpokpi, said Biren on his Facebook post on Thursday.

Tholu Rocky, MPS, Addl SP(LO), led the joint team comprising civil police, CRPF, Forest personnel, and executive magistrate.

FIR has been registered and efforts are on to identify and book the cultivators, Biren said.

Kangpokpi is a district dominated by Kuki-Zo.

Biren says the present attacks by Kuki in Manipur began with the initiation of War on Drugs with poppy destruction, and identification of immigrants and eviction of residents in Forest areas.
