Imphal: Manipur Police arrested four persons with 5.87 kg Brown Sugar in Senapati district of Manipur and six poppy cultivators in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts on Thursday.

The Brown Sugar was recovered from the house of one Ms. N. Sohrii, 40, in Chiphaodai village near Khabung Karong under Senapati police station, Senapati district.

The drug was found contained in 150 soap cases.

Those individuals arrested in connection with the drug case were Khovi, 27, Raivikho, 23, Lovi, 24, and Veipoukho, 23. A case has been registered for further investigation, said police on Friday.

On Thursday, a joint team of Manipur Police, Forest department and Assam Rifles conducted poppy destruction at the Khamasom hill ranges under Ukhrul police station, Ukhrul district.

Approximately 110 acres of poppy plantation was destroyed. Eight huts found in the fields were burned down.

Earlier on December 7, four persons were arrested in an operation by Manipur Police from this hill range. “Efforts are going on to identify and arrest more poppy cultivators,” police said.

On the same day, Manipur Police conducted poppy destruction at the hill range of Molham village under Kasom Khullen police station, Kamjong district. About 10 acres of poppy plantation was destroyed.

Two poppy cultivators Pamchuingam Rimai, 30, and Lifeson Lanjha, 27, from Leikoiching village were arrested. An FIR has been registered for further investigation, police said.
