Imphal: Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh has ‘strongly’ criticized the burning of ministers’ homes, theft of properties, and other violent acts, referring to the perpetrators as “gangs” operating under the guise of democratic movements.
Following the Jiribam tragedy, people in the valley revolted against the valley district MLAs allegedly for not protecting the life and property of people.
“We will take legal against those gangs who vandalized and looted MLAs homes in the name of protest,” the chief minister said.
The state government has no objection to peaceful protests against the killing of innocent individuals, acts of violence and vandalism will not be tolerated, he added.
The chief minister was talking to reporters at the oath-taking ceremony of the newly appointed Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur, D. Krishnakumar, held at the Darbar Hall of Raj Bhavan in Imphal.
Biren assured the public that the case concerning the killing of six innocent hostages from Jiribam has been handed over to the National Investigation Agency.
