Imphal: Children’s Day in Manipur saw school students holding placards embedded “Today is Children’s Day, Release the Innocent children” during rallies at schools in Manipur valley.
Three children along with three women went missing since Monday amid continued violence in Jiribam district of Manipur.
Instead of celebrating the day for children, students staged rallies at their respective school premises demanding to release those children, including an infant, believed to be in the hands of Kuki militants.
“We all know that six individuals including two children and an infant were held by militants. We want them to be released as soon as possible,” said a demonstrating school student at Imphal.
Teachers and students raised the same slogan.
On the same note college students took up rallied at colleges too.
Police said security forces have been taking up operations to rescue the missing individuals.
Mass torch rallies were witnessed on Wednesday evening demand for safe release of the six individuals.
Thirteen civil organisations had submitted a memorandum to the governor’s office to rescue them and to bring a concrete solution to the Meitei-Kuki crisis that erupted on May 3, last year.
Leaders of Manipur PCC met the governor of Manipur at Guwahati and urged for immediate intervention in surge of violence and the renewed turmoil in the last couple of days back in Manipur resulting humanitarian crisis, killing of innocent civilians including mising of women and children.
In order to maintain the law and order situations in the ministry of Home Affairs have provided additional 20 Coys of CRPF and BSF to the Government of Manipur.
“According to Home Ministry ‘s Instruction, DG Assam Rifles has already reached at CCpur for safe release of 6 abducted meitei people of Jiribam Manipur. Great efforts from Ministry of Home Affairs& Grateful to Hon’ble HM Shri AmitShah ji & @PMOIndia,” MP Leishemba Sanajaoba posted on X, on Thursday.
