Imphal: Manipur Police arrested six extortionists in two days from different parts of Manipur valley.
Four of them were in connection with the abduction of Dr. Kh. Nabakeshore, a medical officer from Langthabal Kunja Awang Leikai on November 22 for ransom.
Acting swiftly, an operation by Manipur Police led to the safe rescue of the victim from a farmhouse in Lamdeng under Lamshang police station, said police on Tuesday.
Four persons were arrested on November 24, identified as Wahengbam Ramananda alias Rousow alias Luwangamba of KCP (MC) Lalumba, Wahengbam Usharani, Naoraibam Joyshankar, 39, and Leichombam Bipin Singh, 32.
From their possession one 7.65 mm pistol with magazine, one .32 mm pistol with magazine and l0 .32 pistol live rounds.
On follow up of the case, Manlpur Police arrested another accused person namely, Paonam Shamungou alias Pintu on Tuesday Thereafter arms were recovered from the residence of Wahengbam Ramananda on the same day, police said.
The recovered items were one pistol along with one magazine loaded with 3 rounds of 9mm ammunition, one pistol marked with “pistol 7.65 mm (0.32)” along with one magazine, one revolver, two carbine magazines, one magazine, 28 rounds of 7.65 ammunition, one round of 7.62 ammunition, four detonators, one .22 rifle along with one magazine and eight soap caps containing suspected to be heroin No. 4.
Further investigations are underway to apprehend other accomplices in the case, police said. Manipur Police remain committed to ensuring public safety and urge citizens to report any suspicious activities.
Manipur Police arrested one active cadre of KCP (PWG) namely Wairokpam Naoba Meitei, 34, of Phoijing Teramakhong from Heibongpokpi Khoiriphaba road near Nambol Khoriphaba, Bishnupur district,on Monday.
“He was involved in monetary demand from general public and shopkeepers in Nambol area.”
One two-wheeler and one mobile phone were seized from his possession.
