Imphal: Kangpokpi district police along with CRPF and Executive Magistrate (total-155 personnel) , led by Addl SP , DHQ, under the supervision of SP KPI, carried out poppy destruction drive on Tuesday in the hill range to the West of makhan village, saitu-sub division, Kangpokpi, where Kuki militants confronted the officials.
The combined team destroyed illegal poppy plants of about 12 acres and FIR has been taken up at Sapermeina police station for further investigation and to find out poppy cultivators.
The Makhan Village Authority on Saturday said the additional superintendent of police, Kangpokpi and his team literally running away from the hooligans (the poppy planters) was a complete mockery of their arms and uniform, said Makhan (Makhen) Village Authority on Saturday.
The village authority served a four days ultimatum to the government to take up a fleet-footed action to destroy the poppy plants from Makhan Liangmai Naga land and arrest those Kuki poppy cartel groups and individuals who brandished their arms and weapons on the young volunteers and butchered the equipments.
