Imphal: Women in Manipur valley marched rally protesting against the re-imposition of Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) in six police station jurisdictions of Manipur, on Thursday.

The demonstrators demanded to protect Manipur’s integrity. They raised slogans against disintegrating forces while Kuki militants attack Meitei community to establish a Kuki land demanding for a separate administration. “Long live Manipur”, “Don’t distort Manipur’s identity” filled the air.

A rally organised by various civil society groups, culminated in a march to Yorbung Lampak, where demonstrators demanded the immediate revocation of the central government’s re-imposition of the Army Act.

Led by organizations such as Poirei Apunba Leimarol Meira Paibi, North East United Clubs’ Organisation, Manipuri Students’ Federation (Lamlai Branch), and AMAWOVA Telou Unit, the demonstrators denounced AFSPA as a draconian, colonial-era law. Protesters carried banners and chanted slogans like “Obliterate AFSPA” and called for an end to India’s “Divide and Rule” policies.

They outraged over the recent Jiribam killings, with demands for justice and punishment for those responsible.

Ngairangbam Bidyarani, a women leader, criticized the central government’s policies towards Manipur. She called for the immediate repeal of AFSPA and justice for victims of the violence.
