Imph: Eleven Kuki terrorists were killed while one CRPF personnel succumbed to injury in an encounter in Jiribam district of Manipur on Monday.

The CRPF jawan succumbed to gunshot injuries during the attack by Kuki terrorists. In retaliation, 11 terrorists were killed.

The bodies of the terrorists were airlifted by security forces.

The incident took place after suspected Kuki militants attacked Jakuradhor under Borobekera police station, setting fire to abandoned shops and firing several rounds at a Meitei village.

On this day, the fourth day of continuous gunfire and bomb attacks by Kuki militants, two individuals, including a farmer, sustained bullet injuries in two separate incidents in Imphal East and Bishnupur districts.

In Imphal East, after an Indian Army jawan was injured by gunfire, another individual, a farmer, Kanshok Horam, 35, from New Cannan, Imphal East, sustained multiple bullet injuries during the attack by Kuki militants. After receiving first aid at the Primary Health Centre in Yaingangpokpi, he was referred to Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences.

According to Kanshok, he, with nine others, went to the paddy field at Yaingangpokpi Santi Khongbal around 7 am. At around 9 am, he heard a gunshot, which wounded him.

“We couldn’t escape as they kept firing. After some time, BSF personnel and Yaingangpokpi police retaliated and rescued us.”

Hospital authorities said Kanshok sustained multiple pellet injuries, five of which were removed at the Primary Health Centre in Yaingangpokpi. Two pellets remain lodged in his body and will be removed.

A team of BSF and state police conducted area domination in the Uyok Maning Ching (Uyok hill range) and destroyed several bunkers used by the armed miscreants.

Another heavy gunfight occurred at the Lailampat paddy field on the same day. Heavily armed militants from the Dumpi hill range, adjacent to a Kuki-dominated area, launched an attack on the Saiton area in Bishnupur district at around 2:30 am. Saiton is a border village with Churachandpur district.

A combined team of state and central forces retaliated heavily. The armed miscreants, suspected to be Kuki militants, continued the attack using multiple bombs. During the exchange of fire, which lasted for several hours, a village volunteer sustained a bullet injury on his left buttock. He was evacuated to Imphal for treatment.
