Imphal: With successful investigation of the recent bank robbery at the United Co-Operative Bank (UCO) Kakching branch, police have arrested the robber and recovered a sum of Rs 3,03,500 on Wednesday from Kakching district.
The robbery occurred on the afternoon of October 16, at the bank branch located in Kakching Khonang Mari Phangba and looted Rs 6,49,920 from the cash counter on gunpoint.
Police apprehended Naorem Rome Singh, a 46-year-old resident of Kakching Sumak Leikai, who is reportedly an ex-serviceman of the Indian Air Force.
In a press conference held at the SP office in Kakching, the arrested individual was presented to the media along with the recovered cash.
Deputy inspector general of Range II, H. Jogeshchandra, told reporters that a Special Investigation Team led by the additional superintendent of police, Kakching, Binoy Chongtham, was formed to investigate the incident.
During a week-long investigation, the accused was apprehended along with the outfit he used while committing the crime and a vehicle. However, the weapon he used during the robbery has yet to be recovered.
Superintendent of police, Kakching, Thokchom Vikramjit, said the development was made possible with the support of the public. He thanked all the residents of the area who installed CCTV cameras, which assisted in the investigation of the case.
