Imphal: Kuki Zo Village Volunteer (KZVV) and United Tribal Volunteer (UTV) imposed total shutdown in the jurisdiction of Tuibong sub-division division, Churachandpur district, effective from 5 am on Wednesday, demanding justice to an 11-year-old minor girl who was allegedly molested by a shopkeeper at Tuibong bazaar on October 11.

The incident came to light after family members of the minor registered a case at Women Police Station, Churachandpur, on October 21.

District administration, Churachandpur imposed an indefinite curfew in the Tuibong sub-division following the total shutdown in the district.

Officer-in-charge, Women Police Churachandpur, told reporters on Wednesday in Churachandpur that a POCSO case was registered at the police station on October 21. The police officer said the incident occurred on October 11 when the minor went to buy a hairband from a shop owned by one Jakir at Tuibong bazar. She was allegedly molested in the shop.

On October 22, Jakir surrendered himself at the police station, and he accepted the allegation during preliminary interrogation. She said “women police, Churachandpur has started process to submit the chargesheet within one week.”.

SDPO, Churachandpur, Prakhar Pandey appealed to the public not to spread wrong information regarding the incident that could escalate tension and to cooperate with police.

Protestors were seen blocking Tiddim Road, Churachandpur, at Tuibong Bazaar by burning tires and others. Protestors allegedly dismantled the shop of Jakir at Tuibong bazar and set it on fire.
