Imphal: In a compelling demonstration of solidarity for wildlife conservation, hundreds of students converged for a spirited rally in Imphal in Thursday, marking the 70th Wildlife Week Celebration 2024.

This significant event, organized by the Wildlife Wing of the Forest department in collaboration with the Central Forest Division, aimed to foster awareness about wildlife conservation and advocate for eco-friendly practices, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding the nation’s natural heritage.

The rally commenced at the Western Gate of Kangla and culminated at Hapta Kangjeibung, creating a vibrant atmosphere filled with enthusiasm and purpose. Students from

various educational institutions throughout Imphal participated, brandishing colorful banners and chanting slogans that echoed their commitment to wildlife protection. The creative posters crafted by the students showcased endangered species and conveyed urgent messages highlighting the critical need for conservation efforts.

The event was inaugurated by Soreiphy Vashum, additional principal chief conservator of Forests (PCCF)  Manipur, delivered an inspiring address, urging students to become proactive torchbearers for conservation initiatives.

Chief conservator of Forests (Wildlife), also spoke at the event, emphasizing the crucial role of wildlife in our ecosystem and the collective responsibility to protect these invaluable resources. He encouraged the students to actively engage in wildlife conservation efforts, fostering a sense of stewardship towards the environment.

This rally was part of a broader celebration of Wildlife Week, which runs from October 2 to October 8. This year’s theme, “Wildlife Conservation through Co-existence,” underscores the necessity of harmonious living between humans and wildlife. Through a series of workshops, exhibitions, and public awareness programs, the Forest department aims to cultivate a culture of sustainability and coexistence, reinforcing the message that humans must share the planet with other living beings.

The overarching goal of the Wildlife Week celebrations was to galvanize youth involvement in environmental conservation. By emphasizing that every action, no matter how small, contributes to protecting our planet’s biodiversity, the event seeks to inspire a generation committed to preserving our natural world. The theme of “Conservation through Co-existence” encourages individuals to adopt sustainable practices that align with conservation values, fostering a future where both humanity and wildlife can thrive together.
