Imphal, 14 October, 2024: Ministry of Home Affairs invited Meitei, Naga and Kuki legislators on phone to hold a meeting in Delhi as part of ongoing initiatives to restore peace in crisis ridden Manipur.
The meeting is likely to be held on Tuesday, said a source.
Manipur has been on boil since the eruption of Meitei-Kuki conflict on May 3, last year.
Speaker Th. Satyabrata and MLA T. Robindro left for New Delhi on Sunday, while state Law minister Th. Basanta Kumar, Health minister S. Ranjan, and MLAs Th. Raghumani, Shyamkumar, and Kh Raghumani were expected to reach Delhi on Monday. Minister Awangbow Newmai, along with NPF MLAs Losii Dikho and Ram Muivah, were also expected to attend the meeting.
BJP MLA Robindro said this may be the first step towards peace in the state.
The 10 Kuki-Zo legislators will not attend the meeting, as they remain firm on their demand for a Separate Administration, said a source.
Governor of Manipur, Lakshman Prasad Acharya, coincidentally left for Delhi on Monday.
Opposition MLAs were not invited to the meeting.
“If it is for a solution, it is a good step. It’s too early to comment on it,” said MPCC president, K. Meghachandra.
