Imphal: The first round of meeting among state legislators on Manipur Crisis concludes with priority on restoring peace by avoiding violence.
The first step towards restoring peace in Manipur involved a meeting participated by Meitei, Kuki-Zo-Hmar, and Naga legislators of Manipur Legislative Assembly, held on Tuesday in Delhi.
The meeting, initiated by the ministry of Home Affairs was conducted at Khan Market. It was the first gathering of Meitei, Kuki-Zo-Hmar, and Naga legislators after 17 months of Meetei–kuki conflict.
Senior officials from the ministry were present, along with Dr. Sambit Patra, a BJP Lok Sabha MP and the party’s Northeast coordinator.
Eight Meitei MLAs, including four ministers and Speaker Th. Satyabrata, four Kuki-Zo-Hmar MLAs, including two ministers, and three Naga MLAs, including one minister, attended the conference.
The meeting concluded in a cordial atmosphere and resolved to prioritize restoring peace by avoiding violence among the communities. The timing of the next round of talks is yet to be determined, a source said.
Press Information Bureau said, “A group of elected members of the Manipur Assembly, representing the Kuki-Zo-Hmar, Meitei, and Naga communities, met in New Delhi today to discuss the current scenario in the State. The meeting unanimously resolved to appeal to the people of the State, belonging to all communities, to shun the path of violence so that no more precious lives of innocent citizens are lost.”
