Imphal: The twelve-hour total shutdown imposed by Coordinating Committee (CorCom), a conglomerate of six proscribed outfits along with the Alliance for Socialist Unity, Kangleipak (ASUK) and the Socialist Revolutionary Party (SOREPA) in Manipur paralysed capital Imphal and other parts of the state on Tuesday.

October 15 has been marked as “National Black Day”. On this day the then Manipur King Maharaja Bodhachandra signed the merger agreement on October 15, 1949 to merge Manipur in the Indian Union, after he was allegedly compelled to sign a pre-drafted Merger Agreement on September 21, 1949.

The 12-hour shutdown, which was enforced at 6 am on Tuesday till 6 pm.

Since the forced signing of the agreement with the Indian Union, people across Manipur have consistently opposed it, with various militant groups advocating for liberation and observing October 15 annually as National Black Day.

Less government employees attended offices. Private institutions, and businesses establishments were shut down. Roads in Imphal wore a deserted look with few vehicles.

No untoward incident was occurred during the total shutdown.
