Imphal: Kuki terrorists shot dead one man, who was sleeping, at Nungchappi village of Jiribam district in Manipur on Saturday at around 4 am.

The person was Yurembam Kulendra Singh, 63.

Additional Director General of Police (administration), K. Jayenta told reporters here in Imphal on Saturday about the incident.

He said the crime was committed by suspected Kuki militants.

Following the incident  violence escalated and exchange of firing took place between two armed groups, resulting death of four persons in the fire exchange.

The senior police officer said the armed miscreants continued firing in Rasidpur village with village volunteers against Kuki militants.

During the firing exchange one Baspatimayum Lakhi Kumar Sharma, 41, of Dibong Khunou, Jiribam district was killed.

On receiving the information, Jiribam district police rushed to the spot. They were also attacked by the armed miscreants. District police also retaliated with heavy gunfire and controlled the situation, said the officer.

Later, while searching the area, three bodies wearing full combat uniforms suspected to be the miscreants (Kuki) involved in the gunfight were found, he added.
