Imphal: Students in Manipur took out rally on streets demanding the government to take against Kuki terrorists and to transfer Unified Command authority to Manipur government, on Monday.
The students demanded that the present Security Advisor and DGP of Manipur must be immediately removed from their posts stating that they have failed their duties and moral responsibilities.
Central paramilitary forces deployed in Manipur must leave Manipur as they are nothing but mute spectators, they demanded.
They also demanded the 50 MLAs of Manipur, excluding the 10 Kuki-Zo MLAs, to announce their final stand and ‘act now or else they are morally obliged to resign from their elected post’.
“The Government of India must immediately stop the proxy war upon the Meeteis/Meiteis. Save Manipur for we are Indians, or else leave Manipur alone to decide its own fate.”
“Manipur had enough! We can’t tolerate anymore. if the state continues to fail in protecting the lives and properties of the Meeteis/Meiteis, the students of Manipur will now unite and start to fight using every means at the front to save our future, ” the students cautioned.
The agitation was seen in Imphal West, Kakching and Thoubal districts.
The agitators in Imphal thronged towards Raj Bhavan and chief minister’s secretariat.
The students’ agitation came after a day Biren Singh led state legislators submitted a memorandum to Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya demanding the same to give power to the state government. The legislators also demand to withdraw suspension of operation agreement with Kuki militant groups and not to allow to establish a Seperate Administration for Kuki-Zo people.
The students gathered in front of the gate of Raj Bhavan. They said they will not retreat until the demand is fulfilled.
This development came after the recent killing and injuring of civilians and security personnel in attacks weaponising drones and missiles for bomb attacks in Meitei villages.
A mob of women in torch staged protest on Sunday evening at Imphal demanding the same. The agitators confronted with police when they were tried to disperse from the site.
A group of students met the chief minister at his residence.
After the meeting, a student told reporters that they were assured that the government will do it’s level best to resume normal class and he has been pressing the authority concerned to handover the Unified Command authority to him.
The Khwairamband Ima Keithel was shut down in support of the agitation.
There was no confrontation between the security forces and agitators.
