Imphal : A cop sustained a bullet injury after protestors allegedly snatched a gun and fired at the Manipur police in Thoubal district of Manipur, on Monday.

The students protestors in Thoubal were joined by the public.

Thousands of students participated in the mass demonstrations in Imphal, Kakching and Thoubal districts.

Police and public were seen providing drinking water in the early stage of the protest rally to students demonstrating in the scorching hot weather.

The agitators demanded to strongly reply to Kuki terrorists and to transfer Unified Command authority to the state government, among other demands.

In Thoubal, thousands of students stormed the DC office. Some agitators replaced the old Salai Taret flag installed at the main gate of the DC complex by a new one.

As tension escalated, a confrontation took place between protestors and the police force.

Some agitators snatched a gun from the state police and fired at the officers. During the incident, the police constable named as Ningombam Alexander sustained a bullet injury on his thigh.

The protestors were later brought under control and dispersed.

Another group of students submitted a memorandum with similar demands to the Governor, who reportedly responded positively. The protesters warned that their demands must be met within 24 hours, or they would not retreat.

Tensions escalated when some students began pelting stones at the Raj Bhavan gate. Police responded with tear gas and mock bombs. Around 10 students suffered tear gas suffocation and rushed to the hospitals.
