Imphal: Demonstrators in Manipur valley took out rallies carrying the same demand made by chief minister N. Biren Singh to hand over Unified Command authority to the state government among others.
Biren demanded the central government to provide adequate power and responsibilities to the state government as per the Constitution by handing over Unified Command.
He also demanded the Centre to ensure peace and non violence in the state, to abrogate Suspension of Operation agreement with Kuki militants, there should not be separate administration as Kuki demanded, to fully protect the territorial integrity of the state, to complete Indo-Myanmar border fencing at the earliest, to implement FMR in letter and spirit, to implement NRC in the state with base year 1961, to detect all illegal migrants and deport them.
Taking the same demand, Meira Paibi (traditional women activists) bearing bamboo torch marched a rally in Imphal on Monday evening.
The demands were made following the recent heavy attacks to valley people by Kuki narco-terrorists using drone bombs, missiles and sophisticated weapons, killing, and injuring civilians and security personnel.
The rally began at Thangmeiband Athletic Union ground and marched on the streets of Nagamapal, Khwairamband Ima Keithel and returned along Kanglapat road.
The demonstrators raised slogans to save Manipur from the hands of Narco-terrorists, abrogate Suspension of Operation agreement with Kuki militants, sent off security advisor Kuldiep Singh and transfer Unified Command authority to Manipur government among others.
The same demand was raised by students who demonstrated at Imphal, in Kakching and Thoubal districts.
Some of the student agitators were waiting for reply to their demand made to governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya. The students served an ultimatum to the governor to fulfil the demands in 24 hours.
Representatives of the agitating students, during the agitation at Imphal, submitted a memorandum to the governor stating their demands. ‘The governor had assured them to fulfil their demand’.
A group of tudents, large in number, were stationed at Khwairamband Ima Keithel (market) in the evening waiting for the governor to declare his promise in practical.
