Imphal: A Manipur Police sub inspector has been placed under suspension on Saturday for assaulting a reporter who was covering a rally taken out by Manipur crisis displaced people at Akampat relief camp in Imphal East on August 1.
The suspended officer was sub-inspector Sh. Nikhil Singh of Imphal East commandos.
Imphal East SP K. Meghachandra issued the suspension order which states, “A disciplinary proceeding is being contemplated against SI Sh. Nikhil Singh for his grave misconduct which is not expected from a member of a disciplined force like the Police department.”
The police officer has been placed under suspension for assaulting a senior reporter of Impact TV.
The suspension will remain effective until further order, the order said.
Journalist fraternity in Manipur protested the police action and demanded relevant action against the police.
Chief minister N. Biren Singh had condemned the police action and assured to direct the DGP to investigate the case.
