Imphal: One of the 10 Kuki-Zo MLAs, Tribal Affairs and Hills minister Letpao Haokip, who have not been attending Manipur Legislative Assembly session for the third consecutive time has been appointed as member of 12-member House committee, for the detection of illegal immigrants in Manipur, constituted on Wednesday.
The other members of the committee were Water Resources minister Awangbow Newmai; CAF and PD ,inister Susindro; Education minister Th. Basanta Kumar; MLA Dinganglung Gangmei; MLA K Meghachandra; MLA Th. Lokeshwar; MLA Abdul Nasir; MLA Leishiyo Keishing; MLA Surjakumar Okram; MLA K. Ibomcha; and MLA Th. Shanti.
Speaker Th. Satyabrata announced the names of the committee members on the Assembly floor.
Awangbow Newmai was appointed as the chairman of the committee.
On Tuesday, the House unanimously resolved to adopt the House committee aimed at detecting and deporting illegal immigrants.
The Kuki MLAs have been demanding for a separate administration for Kuki.
Chief minister N. Biren Singh had earlier said the present crisis in Manipur (Meitei-Kuki conflict) came into being after the state government initiated identification of illegal immigrants in the state and destruction of houses constructed in reserved forest areas.
There has been allegations that there are illegal immigrants from Myanmar among Kuki in Manipur, who are regarded as refugees. The present crisis is caused by immigrants supported by foreign hand(s) as put in different platforms.
