Imphal: Kuki Inpi Manipur, apex body of Kuki denied remarks of Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh that his government will hold peace talks with the representatives of the Kuki-Zo people.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the Kuki body said the remark of Biren Singh falsely implied that the Kuki-Zo people are open to negotiations for peace and reconciliation within the ambit of the Manipur state government.

It said Kuki-Zo people resolute against engaging in any negotiations with Manipur government.

“To that matter, the Kuki Inpi Manipur had declined the invitation (Ref No. NIL Dated 08-05-2024) of Shri Dinganglung Gangmei, Hon’ble Chairman, Hill Area Committee, Manipur, clearly stating that the Kuki-Zo people no longer have ties with the Manipur state government who have challenged the core of our history and identity and have threatened our very existence by openly sponsoring an ethnic genocide that is perpetrated our people.”

CM Biren, during the present Manipur Legislative Assembly session, informed that his government has started peace initative talks with Kuki-Zo people.

House Committee to detect and deport illegal immigrants was formed in the Assembly which the chief said could be an initial step for restoring peace in Manipur.

“The executive resolution of the Kuki Inpi Manipur for non-engagement with the Manipur state government is to reflect our firm resolve that the question of Peace and Reconciliation with the Manipur state government and the Meiteis; without Justice for the untold damage and suffering that we have been forced to endure; is a fools’ cry absurd and nonsensical,” the Kuki Inpi said.

It said the pursuit of justice remains the foremost priority, and will remained resolute that a “Union Territory with Legislative Powers” is the only Justice for the Kuki-Zo people.

“It is imperative to clarify that the Kuki Inpi Manipur has not given any individual or entity the mandate to represent the Kuki-Zo people in discussions or negotiations with the Manipur state government. Any claims of such mandates are baseless and misleading, and is unacceptable to the Kuki-Zo people.”
