Imphal: Directorate and District Social Welfare Office (DSWO), Imphal West has provided assistance to two orphan brothers with disability under different schemes, following a news report that aired on July 27 in a cable TV.

The news reported that the brothers from Lairenjam Mayai Leikai, Imphal West district were reported to be living in a miserable condition with no benefits under any scheme meant for persons with disabilities.

A joint team of officials from the DSWO visited to Khwairakpam Sovet Singh on July, 29 afternoon.

Among them, Sovet has obtained Disability Certificate during the month of June, 2024 under UDID (Unique Disability ID) Project with 80 percent of disability under Cerebral Palsy Category but, he has not applied for any scheme like CMST (Chief Ministergi Sotharabasingi Tengbang), Social Welfare director Ng. Uttam Singh said on Sunday.

The team of official from DSWO, Imphal West transported Khwairakpam Japan Singh to JNIMS OPD for assessment and submitted the assessment report to CMO Imphal West. The disability certificate will be generated from CMO Imphal West soon. During assessment, it is known that Japan is also suffering from 82 percent of disability under Locomotor Disability category and he will also be eligible for Care Giver Allowance under CMST, the director said.

Social Welfare department had already provided one Tricycle and a pair of Auxiliary Crutch to Khwairakpam Sovet Singh son of late Kh. Bilati Singh during 2018-19.

He or his brother did not request the department either for such aids and appliances or for financial assistance under CMST- Caregiver allowance in the past. The visiting team provided one Motorized Tricycle (sponsored by Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation and Empowerment of PwDs, Takyelpat) and one pair of Auxiliary Crutch free of cost for their use, he added.

Sovet and Japan were informed during the official visit that they are eligible for Care Giver Allowance @ Rs 1500 per month for life time under CMST scheme.

“If anybody wants the benefit(s) for persons with disabilities, please ensure to get Disability Certificate under UDID Project from Chief Medical Officer (CMO) concerned or JNIMS or RIMS,” the director said.

Application should be submitted to the DSWO concerned or the Disability Cell, directorate office, Social Welfare department, Manipur to avail the benefit(s) under any appropriate scheme, he added.
