Imphal: Frequent landmine blasts injuring people along the Indo-Myanmar border district Kamjong in Manipur will be investigated, a proper report will be sent to the concerned ministries, including the ministry of External Affairs, chief minister N. Biren Singh said during the Manipur Assembly session on Friday.
Biren was responding to the calling attention motion raised by Phungyar MLA Leishiyo Keishing.
Leishiyo Keishing informed the House that frequent landmine blasts have been occurred mostly between Indo-Myanmar border pillars 91 to 94.
The Assam Rifles, who have been utilized as border guarding forces for the last three decades, are performing duties that should be handled by civil administration.
Two persons on a motorcycle was injured in a landmine explosion on May 1 at Namlee along the Namlee-Mansa (Myanmar) road. Another refugee staying at Aloyo, Kamjong, was injured by a landmine blast at Z Choro village, Manipur, in the second week of May, the MLA said.
Two persons were injured by landmine blast near Wanglee on May 22. On July 25 landmine blast claimed one more life injurinb two others at Wanglee market. Another minor also died in a landmine explosion between Wanglee market and Myanmar’s Phayang, he informed the House.
The landmines are reportedly planted by Myanmar militants to terrorize the villagers residing in the Indo-Myanmar areas, the MLA said.
Stating that the matter involves two countries, Biren said he will send a team comprising Assam Rifles, state forces, and CID personnel to investigate the matter and will send a report to the Centre.
He said he will personally contact the External Affairs minister and urge for early necessary actions.
