Imphal: Manipur Police arrested four KYKL cadres and one URF cadre who were allegedly involved in extortion from public and government employees.
Two of the KYKL cadres were arrested on Tuesday and the other two on Monday.
Manipur Police said it arrested two active cadres of proscribed outfit KYKL from Keirak Khongnang Makhong, Kakching district. “The arrested individuals were involved in extortion from the public and government employees of Kakching, Hiyanglam and Sekmaijin area.”
The arrested persons were identified as Elangbam Rajen Singh, 47, and Ningthoujam Ibomcha Singh (53 yrs). From their possession one four-wheeler vehicle and one mobile phone were recovered.
The two other cadres of proscribed outfit KYKL, namely were Maibam Roshan Singh alias Kishan, 38, and Maibam Naocha Singh, 36.
“They were involved in kidnapping for ransom, monetary demands, extortions from stone crushers and Mobile shops,” police said.
Four mobile handsets, one wallet black in colour, one Aadhaar card, Rs 11950 and one four-wheeler vehicle were recovered from their possession.
The URF cadre was identified as Budha Meitei alias Daimal, 38, from Salungpham bazar, Thoubal.
“He was involved in extortion and demanding money from brick farms, schools, colleges, government ernployees and from the public of Thoubal,” said police.
From his possession, one pistol with magazine and three live rounds, extortion demand letter, one two-wheeler, two mobile phones and three sim cards were recovered.
