Imphal: Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh assured that water supply scheme will be set up in every village of Lamlai Constituency in Imphal East district.

Biren said 11 football grounds of International standards will be developed in the state, out of which, a football ground was being developed in Lamlai Constituency under the scheme.

The chief minister made his statement as he attended the 75th Van Mahotsav, 2024 under the theme “Ek Ped: Maa ke Naam” at Chingpu Sabi Lairembi Ching, Lamlai Imphal East on Tuesday.

The chief minister said, “We need nature to survive but nature doesn’t need us.” Global warming and climate change led to natural calamities in the state. Mass tree plantation has been conducted and the government is targeting to plant around 70 lakh tree saplings in the state within September 2024, he added.

Forest, Environment and Climate Change minister Thongam Biswajit Singh said 140 crores tree saplings will be planted under the “Ek Ped: Maa ke Naam” across the country.

The programme was attended by Fisheries minister Heikham Dingo Singh, chairman Hill Area Committee Dinganglung Gangmei, MLAs, officials of Forest department, students, and residents of Lamlai.

The programme was organised by the Forest department, Manipur.
