Imphal: Stop siding with Kuki militants who attack Meitei in Manipur since May 3, last year, demontrators at Imphal Hao ground pushed the Centre and state government on Sunday.
Large number of people spearheaded by Khwairamband Ima Keithal Joint Coordinating Committee for Peace, Emage Meira, All Manipur Kanba Ima Lup, and the Women’s Wing of the Delhi Meetei Coordinating Committee took up the demonstration.
The rally demanded to restore the rule of law in the state.
It was also demanded to take action against Kuki armed groups and foreign supporters and against ‘rogue elements of para military forces and armed forces specially the Assam Rifles’.
The organisations called for a decisive action from both the Centre and state government.
The protestors urged the government to address the threat posed by Kuki armed groups and their alleged foreign supporters as a priority.
They questioned the role and effectiveness of the Assam Rifles in maintaining peace and security.
Convenor Imagi Meira Th. Surjata said, “We are highlighting the concerns of mothers in the current situation with the Assam Rifles. Assam Rifles should protect everyone regardless of religion. Bringing religion into this matter is wrong as their duty is to protect everyone. If they can’t, they should step aside.”
They highlighted that the state Assembly session is about to begin (scheduled on July 31).
“There is an immediate need for the central authorities to make a decision regarding the Assam Rifles,” they said.
The demontrators expected a bill, addressing those issues, to be introduced in the upcoming assembly session.
They called for urgency to ensure peace and stability in the state. “Governmental intervention is crucial for maintaining the integrity and safety of Manipur.”
