Imphal: People of Manipur want to hear a constructive statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to solve the Manipur crisis, not on the number of FIRs or the opening of schools and functioning of government offices, Nameirakpam Loken Singh, former MLA and president of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), said on Friday.
Loken was talking to reporters at his Sangaiprou residence in Imphal West on Friday..
He said PM Modi’s speech did not mention any constructive statements to bring a solution to the Manipur crisis other than past activities including the lodging of FIRs and the arrest of some people.
Congress MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam highlighted the exclusion of the Manipur issue in the Presidential Speech, which was not the discussion or debate. The state BJP’s allegation towards Bimol is immature as the core issues of NRC and SoO have already been discussed on the Manipur Assembly floor. For the NRC, Union Home Minister Amit Shah himself expressed that the biometrics process has already started, Loken said.
“It is time to cooperate with each other to bring a solution and restore peace in Manipur,” he added.
The BJP workers should stop playing cheap political games to please their leaders by sidelining the welfare of the public, said Loken.
He said the All India Congress Committee and Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee are confident that the two Congress MPs of Manipur will highlight the Manipur issue more on the parliamentary floor.
