Imphal: Governor designate of Manipur, Lakshman Prasad Acharya was sworn in as the Governor of Manipur on Wednesday.

Acharya was administered the oath of office by Chief Justice of High Court of Manipur, Justice Siddharth Mridul in the swearing-in ceremony held today at Darbar Hall of Raj Bhavan, here.

Chief minister N. Biren Singh, Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Th. Satyabrata Singh, ministers, former chief ministers O. Ibobi Singh and Radhabinod Koijam, MLAs, chief secretary, security advisor, DGP and senior civil, military and police officers attended the oath taking ceremony.

After taking the oath, the governor received Rashtriya Salute and inspected Guard of Honour accorded by personnel of Manipur Rifles and India Reserve Battalion.

Later, speaking to the media, Governor expressed his happiness at being among the people and praised the natural and scenic beauty of Manipur.

He prayed for the swift restoration of peace in the state and urged the people to come forward with open minds, to cooperate with each other and work together to ensure peace and prosperity for the state of Manipur in the days to come.

Acharya has assumed the charge of the office of the Governor of Manipur with effect from the forenoon of July 31, 2024.

He extended his good wishes and greetings to the people of Manipur.
