Imphal: “It is the constitutional right of every citizen to safeguard and preserve our land (Manipur) for our future generations. One should stop blaming one another but rather cooperate in restoring peace,” Power minister Th. Biswajit said on the backdrop of present Manipur crisis.
The minister was speaking at the observation of the 25th Anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas at the 1st Manipur Rifles Battalion Banquet Hall, Imphal.
One should recall those days where the uniform personnel had toiled day in and day out in Manipur, Biswajit said. He expressed his gratitude to those uniform personnel who were involved in evacuating 60,000 displaced people during the crisis that erupted in May last year.
Minister Biswajit said the Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed on 26th of July every year in India, to celebrate India’s victory over Pakistan in the Kargil War for ousting Pakistani Forces from their occupied positions on the mountain tops in Indian territory in 1999. He stressed the need to respect every soldier who had sacrificed their lives for the cause of the motherland.
Awangbow Newmai, minister Water Resources and Relief and Disaster Management, appreciated the contribution of central security forces in the Government’s initiative to restore peace and further stressed the need to work with more sincerity and transparency. He mentioned that protecting the lives of the people is the responsibility of the central and the state governments.
Indian soldiers overcame many challenges during the war which went on for 78 days and that their Supreme sacrifices cannot be forgotten easily, he said.
As a part of the observation artists from Shri Shri Bal Mukunda Dev Government Music College, Imphal performed a patriotic song.
The observation was also attended by ministers, MLAs, chief secretary, security advisor to Manipur Government, DGPolice, high ranking civil and police officials among others.
