Imphal: Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh has urged Union minister of Health and Family Welfare JP Nada to declare Imphal as NEET PG Test City.
The chief minister wrote a letter to the Union minister on Saturday for the plea.
Biren said as you (Nada) are aware, Manipur has been facing unrest and law and order situation following the incidents that started on May 3, 2023. With the help and support of the central government, the situation has improved significantly and I am hopeful of an early resolution of all the issues facing the state.
Every year, NEET PG examinations are conducted in Imphal Centre, and all the exams held have been conducted smoothly and without any security issues. However, when the National Board of Examination in Medical Entrance Examination (NBEMS) announced re-examination of NEET-PG on August 11, the Imphal Centre was not included in the list of centres. The test city of Imphal was included in the list of centres identified for NEET-PG 2024 earlier, the chief minister mentioned in the letter.
He said due to the present situation, free movement of students along the national highways is restricted and therefore students will face difficulties to reach the centres outside the state. Apart from this not all the students can afford to travel by flights to reach centres outside the state. The state government has created necessary infrastructure for conducting online examinations with funding from Ministry of Home Affairs, he added.
Biren asked the Union Health minister to personally intervene and give appropriate directions to the officials concerned for taking up necessary action for declaring Imphal as test city along with test centres as done in the past, to relieve difficulties being faced by the aspiring students of the state.
The chief minister also personally talked with the Union minister on telephon regarding the matter.
