Imphal: Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh assured the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (Cocomi), Farmers Wing that he will instruct the concerned DCs and departments to take necessary steps for producing better agricultural yields and to provide the due compensation amounts to affected farmers.
Convenor of Cocomi Farmers’ Wing (a conglomerate body of AMPFA, KaPFA, LALLUP, LOUSAL, and LOYALUP), Konthoujam Thoiba, made the statement to reporters on Tuesday at its office, here.
He said, in connection with the ongoing Manipur crisis, representatives of the farmers Wing, held a meeting with the chief minister at his residential secretariat, Babupara, Imphal.
During the meeting, they highlighted the need to take up security measures at the affected villages so that farmers can cultivate their fields, compensate the farmers who were not able to cultivate their paddy land due to the crisis, make urea available at government rates, ensure the timely availability of paddy seeds to start cultivation, and focus on the agricultural sector to produce more agricultural yields.
Thoiba said the chief minister stated that he will instruct the concerned DCs and departments to take up necessary measures so that farmers can produce more agricultural yields.
Biren told them that regarding the remaining compensation amounts for affected farmers, a cabinet meeting will be convened soon so that the remaining amount can be released.
The concerned department will re-survey to get a report on affected paddy fields. The government will take necessary measures to provide adequate fertilizers for farmers, Biren told the Cocomi representatives.
