Imphal: Following the killing of a CRPF jawan and injuring four others in the firing incident at Manipur’s Mongbung village, Jiribam district, on Sunday, a combined team of security forces in a search operation recovered and seized arms and ammunition from the surrounding areas.
The firing incident occurred at around 9 am on Sunday at Mongbung village, Jiribam district, after a combined security patrol team was ambushed by armed Kuki militants.
At around 12:30 pm on the same day, a combined team of district police, 30 Assam Rifles, and the 87th battalion of CRPF conducted a search operation in the general area of Mongbung village.
The security forces team recovered one rifle resembling an M1 carbine; two magazines resembling M1 carbine; 336 live rounds of unknown calibre; 61 empty cases of 7.62 AK ammunition; two empty cases of 8mm ammunition; nine empty cases of 5.56 INSAS rifle ammunition along with two live rounds; one live round of 7.62 SLR ammunition; 81 empty cases of 12 bore ammunition along with two live rounds; one empty case of country-made (Pumpi) ammunition; one BP jacket without BP plate; one backpack containing some medicine, bandages, and civilian clothes; and two firecrackers.
The district police informed the Assam Police to remain vigilant in connection with the FIR concerning one Kuki Liberation Army (KLA) cadre, Haoneithang Vaiphei alias Brucelee of Kangvai VII, Churachandpur district, who was undergoing treatment at Silchar Medical College under critical condition after sustaining a bullet injury during the gunfight at Mongbung.
