9 students faint as school catches on fire

Imphal: Nine students of Prism Higher Secondary School, Naoremthong, Imphal West fainted as the school was caught on fire on Monday morning.

The students were out of danger.

Manipur Fire Service said the incident occurred at around 10.20 am. The building is a G+3 building and one fitness centre named as “Oxy Green Nutrition Centre” is located in the building.

It said the fire broke out from the second floor of the building and the source of fire is suspected to be electric short circuit.

With the timely intervention of Manipur Fire Service the fire has been extinguished in time.

Some property including outer portion of the building covered with plastic materials were burnt down.

Smoke entered in the classroom while the class was continuing. All the students escaped out of the building and some of the students fainted due to panic, a student told reporters.

On seeing the fire blaze at least 9 students (girls) fainted due to panic. However, after they were given first aid at Regional Institution of Medical Science (RIMS), Lamphel, Imphal they have been discharged from the hospital.
