Imphal: Security forces recovered and diffused eight improvised explosive devices (IEDs) weighing around 33 kg in total, at Saichang Itham area of Imphal East district on Saturday.
The combined team of Manipur police and central forces continued to recover arms, ammunition, explosives, and other contraband items during search operations conducted on daily basis in vulnerable areas of Manipur.
Indian Army with Manipur Police detected and defused the IEDs, averting a major tragedy in the region. The prompt action of the security forces prevented potential harm to farmers and cattle grazers in Moirangpurel and Itham villages of Imphal East.
This operation was conducted following a clash on April 13, between armed groups at Itham Moirangpurel, where two Kuki militants were killed.
The confrontation began after alleged Kuki militants launched an attack from Kamu Saichang towards the villages of Tumokhong and Itham Moirangpurel. Security forces recovered two firearms, including an AK-47 and a folding INSAS rifle, from the deceased militants.
The Indian Army credited the explosives recovery to a specific intelligence inputs.
“The expertise of the Bomb Disposal team was instrumental in neutralizing the IEDs, which weighed approximately 33 kg.”
The Army emphasized that this action dealt a severe blow to the plans of inimical elements aiming to carry out subversive activities in the region.
It was not certain to whom the IEDs belonged to. No arrest was mentioned.
