Imphal: Advancing the over a year long Meitei-Kuki conflict, two abandoned Meitei houses were burnt down by miscreants at Bhutangkhal under Borobekra Police station, Jiribam district, on Friday.
After the June 6 incident in Jiribam in which one man was found beheaded, violence in the border district has been escalating with the burning of many houses.
Over 70 houses, including government institutions, have been burnt down, forcing thousands of villagers to flee to nearby safer places in Jiribam near the district police station and Assam.
Additional security forces have been deployed in the area where the houses were burnt down to prevent further negative incidents.
In view of the present situation in Jiribam, the All Jiribam Muslim Welfare Society (AJMWS) has restricted the recreation and entertainment for the Eid-ul-Adha festival in the district.
In a statement released on Friday, AJMWS said the decision was taken during a meeting of the society held at Sonapur.
The Muslim welfare society said Eid-ul-Adha Namaz will be observed at the respective Masjids of the locality, restricting the mass gathering of prayers at Eidghas in Muslim areas of Jiribam in wake of the present situation in Jiribam.
It decided to offer a special prayer on Eid day for the restoration of peace and normalcy, as well as for the departed souls who died in the ongoing violence in Manipur.
The meeting observed a 2-minute silence in prayer for the peaceful rest of the departed souls.
